Cobian Backup

January 13, 2006

After reading some of the comments on Geek to Live: Automatically back up your hard drive I decided to give Cobian Backup another shot due to the versioning and encryption of the backup. Downloaded the software, went through the brief tutorial and decided to setup my first backup. The steps were relatively easy and the versioning is AWESOME! One of the not-so-intuitive things about cobian is how to restore your backups. Basically, the software has a built in “decryption” plugin/tool that you use to unencrypt your backups. Within this tool, there is also a place to define where you want the backups to be restored.

Though I am a big fan of SyncBack I will add Cobian to the mix to do my backups and synback to do my synchronizations. I still think SyncBack totally rocks in synchronizing data.
